Welcome to Kisholoy Children's Hospital
Providing anesthesia ( relief of pain during any anticipated painful procedure or surgery ) is a vital part of the treatment of children and infants undergoing any planned surgery or procedure that is likely to cause pain. Medical professionals dealing with this highly specialized branch of medicine are trained to provide safe pain relief ( anesthesia ) by various modalities available. If your child has been adviced by our doctors of the need for surgery, you will be counseled accordingly. Once the parents give consent to perform surgery on their child, a Pre Anesthetic Checkup will be arranged by our staff for you to meet up with a Consultant Pediatric Anesthesiologist. The anesthesiologist will review your child’s medical history and examine your child to ascertain the optimal method of providing anesthesia.
There are several methods of proving anesthesia to children. The selection of the method is based on the child’s age, the type of anticipated procedure, the likely duration of the procedure, the risks involved and many other factors including the nutritional status.
In general : for simple procedures – pain relief and anesthesia may be provided by oral medicines, or injectable medicines. For more complex procedures, injectable medicines, with or without the use of special medical gases to induce sleep and pain relief ( anesthesia ) may be used. In addition, depending upon the type of surgery or operation, medicines to relax the muscles may be used intermittently.
Our Children’s Anesthesiologists provide full anesthesia and pain relief cover for all elective ( planned ) and emergency ( unplanned and sudden ) operations, surgical procedures and procedures requiring adequate pain relief – right from the newborn child upto the adolescent age of eighteen years of age for boys and girls ! They also help use medicines to provide pain relief after surgery also until the child is transferred out of the Intensive Care Unit. .
